The New Zealand rabbit is an American breed of rabbit. It was developed in California, possibly from rabbits imported from New Zealand. The breed was created by mixing several breeds, including the Flemish giants and Belgian hares. New Zealand rabbits are available in five colors recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders' Association (ARBA): white, red, black, blue, and broken. In 2016, the ‘blue’ variety of the New Zealand rabbit was recognized by the ARBA.
Rabbits cause large extensive devastation to New Zealand's native flora and fauna. Control methods are put in place to keep numbers down. Hunting is a great way of doing that!
