GENERAL HUNT INFORMATION:
We have access to a wide variety of excellent Waterfowling and Big Game Property. From beautiful High Country Snow Caped Mountains, Lush Rain Forest, Mountain Tarns, crystal clear Ponds and Streams to murky Swamps and Lakes. We can do it all! We combine different types of hunting and target different species to make our hunts truly amazing and world class. Join our talented guides on a Kiwi experience you will never forget.
-WATERFOWL SPECIES: Grey Duck (Pacific Black Duck) Mallard duck, Canadian Goose, Black Swan (Cygnus atratus), Parry (Paradise Shelduck), Spoonie (Australasian Spoonbill) are our target species.
TROUT - Brown and Rainbow Trout. We Take our local River Knowledge tips and tricks and put them to work for our clients, Nymph or dry fly we can Cater to your experience. Wet wading while it is 21-28 degrees Celsius and catching trout is one of the most idyllic scenarios. Wet Wading is Wearing Wading socks and Boots, No Waders! On a hot day the last thing you want to be wearing is Waders!
Big Game - 3-6 Day World Class Red Stag, Bull Tahr, Elk, Arapawawa Ram and Pig Hunting. Airport Pickup Can be arranged; Travel to and from The Lodge and back.

- FIREARMS: We will provide Semi Automatic shotguns, Currently pinned at 3-4 shots and ammunition with appropriate shot size for the day.
-TRANSPORT: This can vary but we have access to four wheel drive trucks, four wheel drive motorbikes, duck boats and inflatable dinghy's to get us to our location of interest.
-Bird hunting - HIDES/BLINDS: We will be hunting from a variety of Final Approach Knock Out Laydown Blinds S.U.B FA - A Frame'S and Public water Duck Blinds. There is the opportunity also to hunt from traditional home made "Kiwi" style Blind - (MaiMai).
-APPAREL: Bird Hunting - You will need warm clothing as the majority of our Waterfowling is in Winter. Temperatures can get below -8 degree Celsius but average -1 - 8 degrees Celsius during the day.
Gumboots, Waders and Waterfowl clothing will not be provided. You will need to provide these items or purchase from our recommended dealer Davo's Fishing and Hunting located in Timaru - https://davosfishing.co.nz/ Or Purchase From Final Approach Website.
Fly Fishing- You will be fishing in temperatures around 19 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius.
Bring a warm Jacket incase of a cold Southerly front.
Big Game - Appropriate footwear is essential for your Big Game hunting. Warm Clothes, wind and wet proof layers.
WHAT A DAILY HUNT LOOKS LIKE:
One of our Guide's will Pick you up from your chosen accommodation. We will then head out to our hunting grounds where we will set the spread and do some finishing touches on the blinds (if needed).
We will hunt until we feel it is necessary, everyone involved is satisfied with the quality of their birds.
Once our morning hunt has come to and end we will then head back to your chosen accommodation, for a breakdown of our fantastic morning hunt, have some lunch, a rest, locked and loaded ready to be picked up for the afternoon hunt!
If rest and relaxation is not needed. We have a massive variety of other hunting and sight seeing opportunities.
Whether its walking along a hill side, Shotgun's in hand shooting rabbits, trying our luck on the elusive but much sought after pukeko, shooting european Hare's with a shotgun or 22LR, walking tree lines shooting the Australian Magpie, flushing Feral rock pigeon out of nearby hay sheds, having a quick during the day fishing trip 25 minutes down the road in search of the words largest Brown and Rainbow Trout, sight seeing New Zealand's largest Mountain standing proud at 3724M, Just to name a view of the wide range of variety we can offer to keep our clients occupied.
Afternoon waterfowl hunting could entail - Hunting birds that are coming onto Lucerne fields, Grain Lines or Simply feeding on Rye-corn or Grass pastures, Acorn/Pin oak tree lines, Water hunts involving - Lakes, Mountain Ponds (Tarns) Farm ponds Small streams or large Glacier lakes.
Our guide will then drop you back off to your accommodation.
Or if you have hired your own vehicle you will make your way back to your accommodation.
(We do suggest hiring your own vehicle, allowing you some freedom).
DECOYS:
Central South Outfitters believe having the best decoys on the market is what makes a good hunt a great hunt. We run full body and floater Goose and Duck decoys and Parry (Paradise Shelduck) Silhouette's. We believe in quality over quantity - Here in New Zealand we aren't trafficking birds, we don't need to run anymore than 3-4 DOZ decoys at a time because we simply don't need to.
